Once M.G. and Goldie reached the ages to start their retirements, and since Lorraine had stopped her breeding program, Burton and Shellie were introduced to Marg.  She lives in Canadian, so the day that M.G. and Goldie passed their certification and became crisis-response team-mates, in Erie, Pennsylvania, Marg brought her newborn puppies to their hotel.  At the very moment the puppies arrived at the hotel, the two older teams were being featured on the evening news, showing the last exercise that had been filmed, at a mock water rescue that afternoon.

The Bear has earned his American Kennel Club’s championship, in the dog companion sport of rally.  Perhaps the first or second of his breed, to earn the ultimate title, RACH Bear.

Their training and competition were severely cut short by the pandemic.

Burton and the Bear, and Shellie and Emma, perform pet therapy visits with National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc.  They also were certified and now retired teams, having deployed with HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response.
